Apply for Executive Board Position

OWCA members can apply to serve on the Executive Board. Executive Board Members do not have to be currently employed at a writing center, but should have online writing center experience.

Since our organization is newly formed and growing, applications will be reviewed and voted on by the Founding Executive Board Members. If you have questions, would like to meet the current Board, or would like to learn more about the OWCA, please email board@onlinewritingcenters.org.

Executive Board openings and application procedures are described below.


Conference Organizer

  • Number of openings: 1
  • Start of term: January 2021
  • Length of term: 1 year (non-renewable)
  • Voting Member of the Executive Board?: Yes
  • Estimated time commitment: 10-15 hours a month (the time commitment will increase closer to the conference date)

According to OWCA bylaws, the Conference Organizer has the duties listed below; however, the individual in this position can take on additional responsibilities according to their interests or skill sets.

  1. Propose a topic or theme for the OWCA conference
  2. Work with the President to recruit OWCA members for a short-term conference committee
  3. Chair the conference committee for that year
  4. Work with the Treasurer on the conference budget
  5. Consult the Diversity Committee, Accessibility Committee, and Virtual Events Committee on the conference design
  6. Work with the Website and Communication Committee on the conference website and branding
  7. Develop and update conference-planning resources for the organization
  8. Serve as contact for other writing center associations planning virtual conference events
  9. Serve on the following year’s conference committee to assist the incoming Conference Organizer

  • What diverse skills and perspectives (e.g., identities, institutional background, experiences) would you bring to the OWCA Executive Board?
  • What are some general topics or themes you have in mind for an OWCA virtual conference?

The deadline for applications is November 6, 2020. We will contact you with our decision by November 20, 2020.


At-Large Representatives

  • Number of openings: 3
  • Start of term: January 2021
  • Length of term: 2 years (non-renewable)
  • Voting Member of the Executive Board?: Yes
  • Estimated time commitment: 10-15 hours a month

According to OWCA bylaws, At-Large Representatives have the duties listed below; however, individuals in this position can take on additional responsibilities according to their interests or skill sets.

  1. Represent the interests of underrepresented individuals and/or institutions in online writing center work
  2. Assist other officers with tasks, according to the needs of the organization and the representative’s interests and professional goals
  3. Chair or co-chair at least 1 long-term committee (review our current committees)
  4. Train the incoming At-Large Representatives on the duties of the office

  • Length of term: 1 year (renewable)
  • Voting Member of the Executive Board?: Yes
  • Estimated time commitment: 10-15 hours a month

According to OWCA bylaws, Student Representatives have the duties listed below; however individuals in this position can take on additional responsibilities according to their interests or skill sets.

  1. Represent the interests of secondary school, undergraduate, and/or graduate students engaged in online writing center work
  2. Assist other officers with tasks, according to the needs of the organization and the representative’s interests and professional goals
  3. Chair or co-chair at least 1 long-term committee (review our current committees)
  4. Train the incoming Student Representatives on the duties of the office
