The Secretary is a volunteer Officer position on the OWCA Executive Board.
Position Details
- Length of term: 1 years (March 2024 to December 2024)
- Time commitment: 2-15 hours per month (includes synchronous and asynchronous work)
- Renewable?: No
- Elected by: OWCA membership
Qualifications
We welcome your application regardless of your prior experience with organizational boards, leadership, organization elections, or administration. The Executive Board will support you as a new Board member and help you to implement your ideas.
You should apply for this position if you:
- Would like to develop/hone skills in organization and project planning, data/metrics, and organizational administration and operations.
- Would enjoy taking notes at board meetings and administering OWCA’s elections.
- Have ideas for increasing the efficiency, reach, and inclusivity of OWCA’s elections.
Responsibilities
If elected, you would serve 1 year as Secretary.
Year 1: Secretary
As Secretary, you would do the following within your monthly time commitment:
- Work closely with the incoming Assistant Secretary and mentor them as needed
- Chair the Mentoring & Resources Committee, which involves scheduling and leading committee meetings, delegating tasks to committee members for both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration, and organizing committee files
- Administer the group mentoring program, including:
- Regular review and revision of the program to meet the expectations of OWCA members and the OWCA Executive Board
- Administration of the group mentoring cohorts, including advertising/marketing, intake, group formation, group support, and group wrap-up.
- Review and support of the scholarship database and delegation of tasks related to the database
- Attend monthly Executive Board meetings to report on membership and your committee’s progress, review items that need Board feedback/approval, and vote on Board and committee projects
The Mentoring & Resources Committee
In the past, the Mentoring & Resources Committee has worked synchronously and asynchronously to accomplish the following:
- Develop of OWCA’s group mentoring program, informed by the literature
- Organize professional development opportunities for group mentoring program participants
- Gather and review feedback about the group mentoring program
- Integrate research to the scholarship database to reach saturation of relevant scholarship and keep the database up to date
