First Paragraph

The advent of word processing has dramatically changed the way we teach writing. Gone are the days when once was enough. Freed from the tedium of recopying by hand, students now write papers that go through many levels of feedback and revision. Sometimes that feedback is provided by peers or teachers, sometimes by electronic writing aids such as spell checkers and grammar assistants. The goal, of course, is to improve students’ skills as writers and enhance their understanding of writing as a process of communication and collaboration.
