Abstract
Despite past positioning of videoconferencing as a replication of face-to-face tutoring, approaching synchronous video sessions as a unique tutoring mode that demands flexibility is important. Each synchronous session is an assemblage of people, places, and technology that create the need for different, flexible approaches. This presentation considers the complex ecology of synchronous sessions and offers strategies like having tutors and writers collaboratively develop a technology plan as part of agenda setting and for writing centers to create resources and backup plans to address technical issues writers might face. Strategies like this will support the accessibility of this mode of tutoring for writers.
