First Paragraph
When the first version of the National Writing Centers Association page (http://departments.colgate.edu/diw/NWCA.html) appeared in January 1996, it included about five or six links to other writing center websites. Due to a lengthy web-crawler search and an exploration of sites indexed through the University of Maine’s then excellent site of online writing centers, the NWCA list grew so quickly that at some point in the Spring of 1996 the list of writing centers online had to be moved to its own page (http://departments.colgate.edu/ diw/NWCAOWLS.html) to ease downloading. Since then, through a combination of searching and suggestions from colleagues, sites have been added at the rate of a little over three a month, with major list revisions in March and October of 1997 deleting obsolete sites and adding still more. As of February 1998, 213 sites were included, and it was from this list that the sites reviewed here were chosen.
